It is the first MozTour of its kind in Botswana where a group of passionate and enthusiastic Mozillians lead by a Mozilla Rep in Botswana will be embarking on a MozTour in small towns of Botswana. Essentially after receiving an optimistic feedback in the capital city after a consecutive number of Mozilla events (Webmakers, MozCoffe etc) hosted in Botswana, we are motivated to go and spread Mozilla mission, value and its presence to the entire country and make its mark in southern region through Botswana.During our tour we will visit major universities in each town as well as high schools and community development schools as an effort to recruit and outsource interested people to build small communities in each town to build a collaborative and big community of Mozilla Botswana.

Activities

  1. Inspire and recruit other Mozillians interested to join Mozilla community http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ through small group evangelism.
  2. Give a talk on Open Web technologies like HTML5 and Mozilla's commitment to building the web the way people want it.
  3. Train people on web and mobile development - HTML/CSS/Java script basics, other Mozilla collaborative tools e,g Ether-pad, Git and team development .
  4. Identify contact persons to perform follow up activities after the tour to ensure the community runs stably afterwards.
  5. Show demonstrations on Firefox OS simulator, app development and demonstrate it on Firefox OS Geeks phones.
  6. Run small challenges in this tour to instill self interest by giving away swag to active participants.

Event Goals

1.We are trying to build an active community of Mozillians from all regions of the country with relations to the Mozilla mission of promoting openness, innovation & opportunity on the Web by building the web the way we want in Botswana. 2.Empower and grow our overall community, from users to core volunteers, to not only use Firefox and Mozilla products, but to advocate and promote, and actively participate in Mozilla through small communities set in each town. 3.Cultivate trust with different communities by communicating Mozilla's story to the press and other media entities. 4.Promotion and adoption of Mozilla products and the Mozilla vision. Focuses on user, market, and competitive research; devising and driving product development and business strategy, and devising and driving the outbound marketing strategy for our products.
