Information and Privacy in the days of mass surveillance: conference by the Tor Project, Mozilla and Reporters without borders.

This event will focus on the current conversations around privacy, freedom of speech, and surveillance.

In the wake of the Snowden case, in the context of an increasing smartphone usage, the urge to protect freedom of speech is stronger than ever. Privacy stands as a necessary condition of civic rights, democracy needs freedom of the Press, yet both are endangered by mass surveillance put in place by national and private actors.

Tor Project

Tor Project develops technical solutions to address the concerns Internet users, notably journalists and political activists, encounter on a daily basis. Since 2006, the Tor Project has been on forefront of research, technology and vital conversations on topics of privacy, anonymity and the importance of freedom of speech in a digital world.

Reporters without borders

Reporters without borders promotes and defends worldwide freedom of information and access to information. The Paris-based organization counts several international offices (Berlin, Bruxelles, Genève, Madrid, Stockholm, Tripoli, Tunis, Vienne, and Washington DC) and over 150 correspondents across the globe. RWB recently partnered with Tor against censorship, and provided secured servers to countries where freedom of information is unsafe.

Mozilla

Mozilla is a global community of people whose mission is to promote openness, innovation & opportunity on the Web.
